This week, I’m emulating all those East Coast novelists who moved to California to work for Hollywood and became rich, embittered screenwriters. Except I’m not rich. Or embittered. And I’m only here until Wednesday. But I AM writing this poolside, under a big umbrella to protect me from all the…

Hi, I'm a newbie here and have a question which may be silly. I've read all of Julia's Russ/Clare books and love them. I'm currently listening to them on CD and am on All Mortal Flesh right now (love the reader of this series). I suddenly realized that I do not have a good image of Russ - at all. When I read books, I normally don't try to picture the characters, but now I really want to get a good idea of Russ and I can't immediatly put my hand on a description in any…

I know that Julia likes thinking about songs that her characters enjoy, and I have been listening to a Carrie Newcomer song that seems so appropriate for Russ and Clare that I had to share. It's called 'Hold On.' Here is a link to listen to it on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtjR6eW0aMU

Sometimes I do worry about where Julia stands on the question of war. She has been very particular about no sex with a married man. How about not invading countries and causing the deaths of thousands of people? Seems to me that problem lurks beneath the surface of all the difficulties of being called up to fly helicopters instead of looking after a congregation. I don't find that theChristianity in the novels in any moe than superficial..

You want to discuss One Was A Soldier with someone. You really want to talk about that bit with Hadley and Kevin, or the scene where Clare told Russ or The Ending. Well, here's your chance. Spoil away. Warning! Go no further if you haven't read the…Continue

Because I love this series so much, I would be willing to consider any recommendations Julia has. She has gotten me into the Inspector Armand Gamache series by Louise Penny. Any other recommendations, either from Julia or from my fellow bloggers?

While I was traipsing around the North Country this past week, my daughter, who is roughly 100 times more internet adept than I, unearthed a Millers Kill fan fiction site. As I've…Continue

I know this is on Facebook, but it's sort of hidden away. Let's list our favorite scenes/moments from the books, any book as they occur to you. I'm re-reading from the beginning of the series but for now............. OWAS........"You had me at…Continue

Once in a while one of those vile crew of internet pirates gets through. Thanks to alert readers Judy, Penny, Kathy and Anne for giving me the heads up. The spammer has been banned and all its messages deleted.

As I posted over at my Facebook page, I'm pushing hard to get Through the Evil Days finished and in to my editor. As a result, posting will continue to be spotty over here. I will try to keep getting those…

As you may know, I'm working on the next book in the series. Its working title is SEVEN WHOLE DAYS, but don't count on that to last because the booksellers I've spoken to all went, "Blaaah," when I tried out the title on them. The novel opens about two months after the end of ONE WAS A SOLDIER and, as you might guess from the title, takes place over a single week.
Right now, it looks as if publication will be at the end of 2012 or beginning of 2013. I'll let you know when I…

But I finally got this week's excerpt up. Thanks for your patience.
I just found out tonight's my 11-year-old's school choir Christmas concert. It's rainy and cold and all I could think was "Nooooooo....." making me a combination of Bad Mom and Scrooge. The things we do for our kids.
